About

  • The Authority was established by Presidential Decree No. 1189 of 1968 to report to the Ministry of Internal Trade and its headquarters in Cairo.
  • The main reason for establishing this economic entity in 1968 was to manage the crises of food and consumer goods in the Egyptian market during the period after 1967 by assigning this task to a financially and administratively independent entity. The role played by the Authority in procuring essential goods for the Egyptian market has developed until the number of goods procured by the Authority during the 1970s reached approximately 50.
  • With the state increasingly entrusting the private sector with procuring essential goods, the number of goods procured by the Authority decreased, reaching approximately 4 goods in the mid-1980s and early 1990s: wheat, sugar, oil, and tea.
  • The Authority, in accordance with Resolutions No. 346 and 626 of 1984, authorized the General Company for Silos and Storage to carry out all work related to customs clearance, unloading and shipping to the country’s internal silos. The administrative affiliation of the General Authority for Supply Commodities was transferred to the Ministry of Industry and Trade pursuant to Resolution No. 420 of 2005 . The administrative affiliation of the General Authority for Supply Commodities was transferred pursuant to Resolution No. (39) of 2011 of the President of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
