The Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage
The Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage was established by Prime Ministerial Decree No. 1682 of 2002 in accordance with the provisions of the Public Business Sector Law No. 203 of 1991. It is a company wholly owned by the General Authority for Supply Commodities and is responsible for managing, operating, developing and advancing silos. The Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage's responsibilities include the following:
Establishing and operating the necessary silos for grain storage to meet the country's needs through the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. This will be achieved through implementing a project to build and develop a system for managing and monitoring the trading of local and imported wheat and flour, from the beginning of contracting until the milling stage. Establishing a robust electronic system for trading imported and local wheat, from the beginning of contracting until milling.
Extensive studies were conducted to ensure proper handling of imported and local wheat from the moment of contracting until flour production. Implementing approved policies, plans, and programs to develop silos and setting appropriate procedures. Receiving wheat from citizens and suppliers during the local wheat season and storing it in silos annually for consumption throughout the year. Maintaining grain quality through monitoring and implementing the necessary maintenance. Eliminating the loss rate, which amounts to about 10% to 15% due to storage in barns and open spaces. Transitioning grain storage activity in Egypt to a distinct civilized shift to preserve stock and achieve the lowest possible loss rate.
Creating new attractive areas and agricultural expansion by encouraging farmers to cultivate wheat and grains near the areas where silos are established. Reducing the average purchase price of wheat During the year, as a result of entering the global market for purchase at appropriate times due to the presence of safe balances within the country.
